Notes About
Power Tools For Wood And Metal
|
This section, on the full version CD, contains details of the numerous power tools and machines used to cut resistant materials, including:
The shape of materials may be changed by removing material from the original piece. Machines used to remove material may be classified as portable power tools and fixed machines.

Circular Saw
by Scheppach
|
Circular
Saw

A circular saw blade has rotary motion.
A circular saw has a number of cutting edges (teeth) arranged in a circle. When the circular saw blade is made to revolve at high speed, each tooth makes a tiny cut in the wooden material that is pushed against it. The riving knife behind the circular saw blade prevents the gap in the sawn timber from closing and seizing on the saw blade.
On this type of circular saw, the machine is fixed and the wooden material is pushed towards the revolving blade. The blade tends to push the wooden material down onto the saw table. |

Portable
Circular Saw

In the case of a portable circular saw, the wooden material is fixed and the machine moves towards it.
The blade cuts from the underside of the wood and tends to pull the circular saw down onto it.

Band Saw by Draper
|
Band Saw

The band saw blade is a band that runs around two or
more wheels, one of which is driven by an electric motor.
The teeth of the band saw blade point down towards the
table, thus pushing the material being cut onto it.
