Tools and Processes
Hand Tools For Cutting Metal
(Useful Tip)

On the full version CD, this is a large section containing exercises that include:

Reciprocating saws:

Use notes and sketches to illustrate the two types of reciprocating saw shown opposite. In your notes and sketches you should show:

a)  which way the blade should be pointing on each of the saws and explain why this is so;
b)  how the guard covering the blade should be adjusted;
c)  why the (red) jig saw will not work with a thin fret saw blade as shown in the top picture;
d)  explain what the tube protruding from the side of the (blue) fret saw may be used for.

It is possible to tilt the table of the fret saw and the base of the jig saw up to 45°, explain why this is a useful feature on the saws.

List the risks associated with using the saws and state the precautions that should be taken.
